Calcium Propionate Uses
Calcium propionate is an acid-type food preservative. Under acidic conditions, it produces free propionic acid and has an antibacterial effect. It has a strong inhibitory effect on various molds, gram-negative bacilli or aerobic bacillus in acid medium (starch, protein and oil-containing substances), and can also inhibit the production of aflatoxin, but has no effect on yeast. It is harmless to humans and animals with no toxic side effects. It is a new, safe and efficient antifungal agent for food, feed and Chinese medicine preparations.

Baked goods: bread, pastries, muffins, etc.

Dairy products: cheese, milk powder, whey, yogurt, etc.

Beverages: soft drinks, fruit juice drinks, etc.

Alcoholic beverages: beer, malt beverages, wine, cider, etc.

Processed meats: hot dogs, ham, luncheon meat, etc.

Is Calcium Propionate Safe?
Calcium propionate is a common preservative in baked food. It is often used in combination with sodium propionate and propionic acid to maintain the freshness of baked goods. In some types of cheese and butter, calcium propionate is also naturally existed. Many consumers often question the safety of this food additive.

However, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified calcium propionate as safe. Other organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) have also recognized that calcium propionate is non-toxic and safe, and can be used in accordance with the standard dosage currently used by food manufacturers.

In addition, the human body does not store calcium propionate, so it does not accumulate in cells. Calcium propionate does not accumulate in cells, but is broken down and absorbed, metabolized through the digestive tract, and then excreted from the body. When the digestive system breaks down the food you eat, it also breaks down the calcium in propionic acid. Then it is easily absorbed and metabolized, just like other fatty acids in the body. Then it was eliminated.

Re: COE prices $100,000

Totally get it, my daughter just got her license a little over a month ago and is now really excited about the prospect of going back to the US because she really wants her own car. There I could see it happening but here we drive a used Hyundai. It’s a nice car, not beat up and not old at all but it’s just too expensive to justify owning anything nicer here. It’s not even about having the means, it just doesn’t make sense when you consider all of the other costs that you have to pay in addition to the cost of the car.

And that is the thing many in Singapore do not understand… having financial means does not equate to being able to enjoy it. Singapore is not a place where you get bang for your buck — and it’s not just expensive, it’s also greatly limited in terms of .....

❰❰ Quote:The difference in places like the US is that the public transport system is not nearly as advanced as it is in Singapore so a lot of times if you don’t have a car you quite literally have no way of getting around. Whereas in Singapore the problem is the converse where we have too many cars and not enough room on the road so they need to price things so high that only those who truly truly are willing to make the financial sacrifice are able to get a car.

If Singapore wanted to make car ownership "fair", they'd dump the COE system and go to a simple lottery. They know exactly how many COE's will be issued. A lottery would permit poorer people to buy a car OR sell the COE to someone else willing to pay for it. Time limits could be set for lottery winners... use it or sell it .....

Re: Fridge Leaking; (a) repair person ? or (b) buy 2nd hand ?

I think depends on:

1. Cost of repair for the leak
2. Possibility of recurrence
3. Age of current fridge

vs cost of a new set

I am not certain if you should buy a 2nd hand one because it's used and does not carry a warranty and you would end up repairs again.

Don’t you worry about what might happen to the helper if your neighbor gets truly upset about it? I personally wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I knew I was the reason the helper got sent back to her home country, they work very hard and for very little money, I can’t help but feel for them.

And if that foreign worker likes what he sees in the house that can afford to keep his GF in luxury and not in a Workers cramped, smelly workers quarters and decides to help himself behind the helper's back. Still feel sorry for the helper when 'she' is accused of a theft she knows nothing about? I have to side with smoulder on this. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and the helper will possibly have learned a hard lesson, or a lesson. In either case, one she .....

they would claim those are community cats if pushed. I think the HDB is turning a blind eye.
