The 30% tax on US source dividends applies to most but not all overseas jurisdictions. For example, Ireland has a tax treaty with the U.S. which lowers it to 15%. This is one reason why London traded ETFs are so popular with non-US persons, because most ETFs holding U.S. stocks that are traded in London are domiciled in Ireland, allowing you to retain maximum dividends.

This is what I meant when I said London traded ETFs are tax optimized for non-US persons.

In addition, holding US stocks or funds directly by non-US persons could subject your investments to as much as 40% estate tax on your beneficiaries if anything should happen to you. This can be a very unpleasant surprise and happened to someone I knew at work, the surviving spouse ended up paying a six figure tax bill. This can easily be avoided by investing on the LSE instead of NYSE, or at least limiting your US exposure to $60,000.

Re: Register a company as an LTVP holder

If you got an LOC for ICA-issued LTVP/LTVP+ holders as a spouse of a PR, you can legally work in Singapore. Note that your LTVP has to be valid for at least 3 months, and you must have a job offer with a Singapore employer. In case you've got a pre-approved Letter of Consent (PLOC), it allows you to work in Singapore without the need to find a job first. Also note that PLOC does not allow you to be self-employed. However, there are certain limitations as PLOC holders are not allowed to work in some restricted occupations such as journalist, editor, sub-editor, producer, or in any religious occupation.
In general LOC is not meant for LTVP holders to set up their own business. But, you can be hired as General Manager or in any other role. And since your spouse is a PR, she can act as a local director. In this way it will be easier and much cheaper for you to register a company.
You can check ACRA for more details about company directors: .....

Re: Seeking Advice: PR Application Pending Beyond 6 Months

❰❰ Quote:
I submitted my PR application in early July 2024, and it has now been over six months with no updates from the ICA. The system indicates that the usual processing time is within six months, but it also mentions that some applications might take longer.

I’m unsure about what to do next. Should I just continue waiting, or is it advisable to email the ICA to request an update?

Additionally, has anyone received positive results under the new application system? I’d appreciate any advice or shared experiences! [-o<
