Redundancy - EP -> PEP activation, pros and cons, advice needed

Hi,

I'm an EP holder and have been living in Singapore for the last 5 years. I've recently been made redundant with my last day a few weeks away. I saw this coming a while back so was successful in getting my PEP (and DPs) approved recently to provide some options to us as a family whilst we decide what is next. I'm actively job hunting and our goal is to stay in Singapore.

As a PEP allows me to search for work for up to 6 months, I'm trying to maximise the time before that clock starts ticking by pushing out the PEP activation as far as possible. I understand I will be put onto a 30 day STVP once my EP is cancelled and from speaking to MOM, they said I can activate my PEP any time, including on the final day of STVP. My HR Director has also told me that should I want an extension to my STVP, she can request that once it's within 2 weeks of the original end date. This could in theory give me 2 months additional time before I need to activate my PEP.

I wanted to check if anyone had .....

Re: PR approval chance in 2020

Hello,

Thank you for this very informative thread and clear guidance. Could you please give me your opinion on my profile:

Gender: F
Age: 43
Marital status: Single
Nationality: Spain
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Diplomas: BS, MBA (Europe)
Industry: Tech company (Facebook)
Role: Program manager
Salary: 250k
Pass: EP, same company since 2014
Stay in Singapore: 11y combined since 2009 (had an EP, PEP and unemployed for ~6months in total in between jobs before the 2014 job and only ever left Singapore 1-2 weeks when unemployed to renew visa). I understand 2014 is a reset point for duration of stay for this application .

If I were to guesstimate I’d say very low to no chances. Cons are age, ethnicity and probably job isn’t specialised enough (that could change in the next 6 months towards cybersecurity specialisation). I think I missed my window and would have had better chances ~3-4y ago if I had planned it from the start, but keen to hear your thoughts on this self-assessment!

All my previous 5 rejections came after a period of 6months, except the first one which took an year for rejection. 3 times applied alone and 2 times with spouse (while she was still working).
This time will be including my daughter in the application process.

Re: Mens shoe repair

Yeah, I'm an old fogey. Fix them if the topsides and insoles are in good shape. Anything you buy today are not likely to give you the same service nor will they be as comfortable. Shop around, there are a number of decent cobblers in town. If they are good shoes it might be worth it to resole them. I'm a believer of restoration and recycling when restoration isn't possible or practical.
