ABOUT YOU
We are looking to commission an outstanding writer based in Singapore to produce top-notch, original and compelling articles about Singapore, and beyond. You need to be extremely passionate about culture and lifestyle (*see below) and know how to translate that interest into brilliant content for a highly educated, local and global audience. A self-starter with an eye for excellent copy, you should stay on top of local trends and always look out for ways to improve and enrich your writing.
As part of The Culture Trip’s dynamically expanding hub network, you may from time to time work alongside a local Director of Culture who will be responsible for managing a number of local social media channels.
This is a freelance role, remunerated pro rata, and can be undertaken from home.
Main Responsibilities:
— You will be responsible for creating original and engaging articles in a variety of formats (listicles, features, flash facts…) and on a variety of topics. You will be expected to work with a range of content from across the following verticals: travel, food, fashion, art, design, film, books, music, real estate & architecture, sports, tech & entrepreneurship, health & wellness
— Your primary responsibility will at least initially be to write about your own city – but we will also ask you to write about other places you’re familiar or comfortable with, wherever appropriate.
— Deliver a set number of articles by a deadline each month. The topics will be mostly set by your Regional Manager. You will also be able to make your own suggestions for articles but they will need approval by your Regional Manager so they are aligned with the company’s goals.
— Adhere to the in-house style guide while understanding and developing the nuance of a distinctive voice for the city concerned.
— Source and select beautiful images for your articles – here you will work with external organisations, such as local venues, and there will be a picture editor to support you.
— Ensure your content is high quality from a stylistic perspective, as it will be copy-edited prior to publication.
— Report to one of the London-based Regional Managers (via email and Skype).
Desired Skills & Experience:
— Journalism or humanities graduate with a portfolio of published work or internship experience in an editorial context (1-2 years)
— Evidence of interest/expertise in at least 3 of the aforementioned categories (travel, food, …)
— Native-equivalent English skills are an absolute must
— Hyper-local, insider-level knowledge of Singapore and its local art, culture, travel and food scene
— Exceptionally strong writer with impeccable spelling and grammar, and the ability to tweak your voice depending on your audience
— Strong understanding of what makes a great piece of content and how to engage readers with excellent copy
— Solid understanding of the differences between social media and search engine-optimized content
— Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
— Familiarity with WordPress is highly desirable
— Familiarity with Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter highly desirable
— Academic excellence and a degree of intellectual gravitas is important
— You should be comfortable working within a global company and liaising across different time zones

While most international schools in Singapore offer a wide range of second languages (typically including French, Mandarin, Spanish, and occasionally German), Norwegian is *rarely* offered as part of the standard curriculum. That said, schools like UWCSEA and OFS are known for having diverse student bodies with strong support for home language programs, some families arrange for external language tutors or join community-based language groups in parallel with school. You might also want to explore schools that are particularly popular with European families. Re: Can expat and local couple apply for International School for child
In Singapore, if the child is a Singapore citizen, even if only one parent is local, they cannot enroll in an international school without MOE approval. This applies regardless of the other parent’s expat status. If the child is not a Singapore citizen (e.g., holds only a foreign passport), then there’s no restriction, and the family can apply freely to international schools. So for your friend, it really depends on the child’s citizenship. If they need help comparing schools that accept expat kids, doris.school is a useful tool that shows fees, curriculum, and admissions policies all in one place.

Gotta make a punt on several factors
1. Good jobs?
2. Population growth?
3. Johor - Sg connectivity?
Look at HK with regards to the 3 factors.
Point 3 wud be shenzhen-HK connectivity
Look at NZ with regards to the 2 factors.
Both are suffering declines.
I have no crystal ball. Unfortunately.

Re: PR iPA received and Pre-COF done but haven't received next steps after 10 working days
Hey, I've received my IPA and finished all my pre-COF tasks as well and waiting for the email detailing next steps. Can I check if you heard back from ICA? How long did they take and what were the next steps you had to go through to get your PR?

Yea it turned out to be a misunderstanding from their side as they called me later and said it shouldn't be a problem as long as I complete it and reply to an email they'll send that I've done so once I'm finished. Thanks for the help tho maybe someone else can read this and not make the same mistake
